Welcome to my class schedule. If you know of a group who'd like to increase fitness while having fun, I am available to teach private lessons, small classes, or seminars. I routinely teach women's groups large and small, young and old, professional and amateur alike, and love watching the joy and excitement this art form brings. If none of the classes listed below works for you, I do also teach private lessons. Give me a call or email me for more information!

BELLYDANCE AND BODY IMAGE: Learn to Love Your Hips!

With alarming rises in teen eating disorders, diets and weight-loss pills more popular than ever, and a resurgence of the girdle as a common undergarment, it's plain to see: our culture has an unhealthy image of the ideal woman. Fashion models are thinner than 98% of American women - and if mannequins were women they would be too thin to bear children.

Belly dance is a great way to increase health, stamina, and flexibility while improving your body image and learning to accept and love the body you have - RIGHT NOW - not some possible body you might have if you lose xx number of pounds. This class highlights how your curvy body is wonderful just the way it is, and how you can feel sexy without losing an ounce.

I'm passionate about bringing this material to non-profit organizations such as Gilda's Club, and have presented at Grand Valley State University's "Vagina Activist Gathering" as part of their annual Vagina Monologues. For more information, or if you'd like me to present this class at your organization or women's group, please email me at naimahdance at gmail dot com, or dance at naimah dot net.

"Na'imah's energy, presence, humor, and of course her dancing and teaching skills are awesome. Belly dancing allows me to connect with my body in an affirming way I have never experienced before. I can't stop smiling when I'm in class!" -- Debra Berry, Grand Rapids, MI

Here's a great video about how our societal obsession with extreme weight loss is making us sick... check it out.
